Issue Position: Jobs and the Economy

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

As someone who grew up here, I have dedicated my life to the Valley. I've seen first-hand what our communities can do when times are good. I've also seen what happens when times are tough.

While much of our state is recovering from the worst economic times since the Great Depression, the Valley is lagging far behind. That's why we need to elect a State Senator who will act with a sense of urgency to get us more jobs today.

People in the Valley know how to work hard. It's fundamental to who we are. Yet unemployment in the Valley is nearly 50% higher than the statewide average.

As your Senator, I will be a leader in ensuring that we reinvest in our workforce. We must bring good jobs home to the Valley and train our workforce to be ready for those jobs.

That means cutting red tape and streamlining regulations for business, while expanding vocational training for jobs in growing fields like healthcare, computer science, and nursing.

We need to be ready for the jobs of tomorrow, today. The American Dream starts with a good job, and as your Senator, I will fight to bring good paying jobs to the Valley.
